Selling Physical Products Online – Why You Should Start TODAY
When people talk about affiliate marketing, most automatically assume that this refers to selling digital products. Well this is the most common form of affiliate marketing but the problem with that is that most niches and products are saturated by Internet Marketers promoting them all like crazy, trying to bump up their Clickbank accounts. But the more experienced affiliate marketers are now moving away from digital products and are now opting for selling physical products online.
There are several reasons for this. As mentioned before most affiliate marketers will look for digital information products and software products to promote, and this creates a very crowded playing field full of affiliate marketers trying to out-do each other to try and sell the next greatest eBook or software product.
It is now becoming increasingly difficult for the ‘little guys’ to find a profitable niche and make a consistent income from it when selling digital products only. The big players dominate these markets with their huge email lists and SEO task force working full time getting their websites ranking on the first page of Google.
If you are building websites to promote affiliate products then of course you will do your keyword research too. But another step of the process that many people leave out when doing keyword research is to check the commercial intention for each keyword phrase that you use. You will find that when you do go through this very important step that a lot of the keyword phrases that you chose do not carry much commercial intent, and basically will not get ‘buyers’ landing on your site.
But what is more apparent is that this is so much more evident when trying to target keyword phrases that are related to digital information products.
I can show you an example right now using this free tool (see link below) that will actually give you the commercial intent for a phrase that you put in.

Let’s say I wanted to promote an eBook that tells you how to lose belly fat. A typical keyword phrase might be “how to lose excess belly fat”. This sounds like a good keyword phrase and you would think that everyone that typed that into the search engines would have their credit card in their hand ready to buy any product that can help them.
But look at the result it produces when you type that in:

This keyword phrase actually shows a result of 0.93 for NON commercial intent. This means that 93% of the people that typed in that keyword phrase weren’t looking to buy anything, they were just looking to obtain some free information on the net.
So let’s try another example. This time I typed in the keyword phrase, “burn belly fat”.

This again produces a NON commercial result of 0.69, which tells us that 69% of people who used that keyword phrase were not looking to buy anything.
So what does that mean?
What this shows you is that for a lot of information products you have to dig really deeply to find those ‘buyer’ keywords, the ones that actually have commercial intention and the people typing them in are in fact looking to buy something.
It also means that you need to work so much harder to make a lot of these keyword phrases work for you. If you go back to the first example, it showed that 93% of the people that used that phrase weren’t looking to buy anything. So logic tells us that even if they reach your affiliate site and see that they need to pay for the information they will leave immediately as this is not what they wanted to do. So that leaves just 7% of the people to work on. So even if these 7% do end up on your affiliate site, you still need to hope that the sales copy will be good enough to convert them into a sale.
So what about physical products?
Okay, let’s try this again using an example for a physical product. For this I typed in the keyword phrase “Ping driver” targeting a Ping brand of golf club.

As you can see, this has given us a 0.99 for COMMERCIAL intent! That means that 99% of the people that typed in this phrase were looking to buy!
Let’s try another one. This time I typed in “garden furniture”.

This has given us a result of 0.98 COMMERCIAL intent. Again that means 98% of the people that used this phrase were ready and willing to spend money there and then on this product.
You will find the same kind of results for most of the physical products you do this with. So you can see how much easier it is to find people that are searching the internet looking to buy something when promoting physical products. You will find that your sales conversions will be much higher than with digital products, and your refund rates will be much lower when promoting physical products.
Plus the beauty of this is that you can just set up simple five page websites and a lot of the keyword phrases you will be trying to target will be a lot easier to rank for.
